Interlude: Gal’Rod the Glutton

DESPITE WHAT YOU MIGHT believe, you don’t need to be a god to be a tender.

Born to slave parents in realm 4-9167-87H, Gal’Rod Mol-Cyprus, colloquially known as “Gal’Rod the Glutton,” had been an outcast since birth. With his three heads and six legs, he was immediately taken away by the golden elf who owned his parents and thrown into the boiling oceans of planet Tro’thagga.

The result of a mutation caused by excessive exposure to the radioactive gemstone known as “Talpis 10” in the womb, Gal’Rod had proven to be sturdy, even as a newborn.

He survived the fall into the ocean, he survived the boiling, turbulent waters, until he was found and rescued by a group of steam pirates: warriors of the boiling ocean who used the steam generated from the water’s temperature to power their warships.

He was raised by the captain whose name has since been lost to history. An orc himself, the unnamed captain raised Gal’Rod as his own son and taught him how to survive. However, it quickly became evident that Gal’Rod had appetites that exceeded even those of a fully grown orc.

Though he was barely more than a toddler, Gal’Rod would eat over sixty pounds of meat a day. While this amount was paltry for the captain to provide, the crew grew jealous of the favoritism aimed at the child.

Favoritism, which only grew as Gal’Rod aged, growing stronger and larger with each passing year... Until the day a certain crewmember who’d grown to resent Gal’Rod for the privileges given to him, decided to take matters into his own hands.

He cornered the then ten-year-old Gal’Rod and stabbed him through the heart with his saber.

Gal’Rod couldn’t believe what was happening. He’d never suspected this crewmember would betray him like this. He’d thought of him like a brother, as he was the biological child of the captain.

The crewmember left Gal’Rod to bleed out in the bowels of the ship, intending to come back and dump the body once the rest of the crew had turned in for the night.

What he never could’ve expected was Gal’Rod surviving the attack.

Driven by a feral instinct to survive, Gal’Rod launched his dying body onto the crewmember’s back and sunk his teeth into the tender meat of the crewmember’s jugular.

Gal’Rod killed his first friend at the age of ten and committed his first act of cannibalism on the same day.

No one ever suspected what actually happened to the captain’s son. As a final thank you for their years of friendship, Gal’Rod left nothing of the other orc’s body. He consumed him totally and told the captain that he thought the boy had fallen overboard.

The crew searched for the captain’s son for ten days and ten nights before they finally gave up. The captain didn’t want to accept that his son had died while he slept, that he had failed to save him.

The captain became more brutal as he fell deeper into the bottles of cheap wine he kept in his quarters. It
